Divisions of the Police Department

There are a number of different divisions within the Orange Park Police Department. Click below to learn more about them!

Patrol

Our Patrol Division is commanded by the Assistant Chief of Police and consists of four patrol squads, each being led by a Patrol Sergeant. Patrol is the backbone of the police department. Our Patrol Officers are available to answer calls for service 24/7, 365 days a year. Our officers respond to reports of crime, conduct traffic control and enforcement, perform community policing functions and coordinate efforts with the investigators who are called upon to follow up on many cases that originate from patrol’s calls for service. We pride ourselves at OPPD as having extremely fast response times when responding to emergency and non-emergency calls in the Town. We also pride ourselves on the level of service we offer our residents, going above and beyond the call of duty to help protect and serve our community.

Communications

The Orange Park Police Department's Communications Section is responsible for handling all 911 and non-emergency calls for service 24/7, 365 days a year in the Town of Orange Park. The Communications Section is commanded by the Assistant Chief of Police and led by the Communications Supervisor. Our dispatchers are very busy and at times are answering multiple calls for an incident while dispatching officers to the events, having to give information and updates to all involved, and having to enter this information into our computer system. They often have to listen to very tragic and harmful events on the phone while trying to dispatch the proper emergency personnel to those events. They answer calls from people who are distressed, panicked, suicidal, or are mentally ill. Dispatchers are skilled telecommunicator operators and are patient and sympathetic when speaking with callers who need help.

Investigations

The Investigations Division is commanded by the Lieutenant. This Division supports community safety by investigating all felony criminal activity, handling complex investigations and gathering intelligence on a wide variety of major crimes. Cases originate from community reports and referrals from other law enforcement agencies. Personnel assigned to this division specialize in the fields of investigating, interviewing and warrant preparation.

Evidence & Property

The Evidence Section is commanded by the Lieutenant. The Evidence Section is responsible for maintaining the integrity of evidence and chain of custody of all property that comes into their possession in accordance with state laws, city ordinances and departmental policies and procedures.

Evidence personnel are responsible for receiving, storing, releasing and maintaining security of a wide variety of items. Property received by the Evidence Section includes, but is not limited to, cash, jewelry, guns and various weapons, narcotics, vehicles, bikes, blood samples, urine samples and other evidence related to assaults, homicides and other crimes.

Crossing Guards

The Orange Park Police Department Crossing Guards are led by the Lieutenant. There are few careers more noble than that of a crossing guard, ensuring the safety of our children in the community as they walk to school. Our Guards receive annual training from our certified crossing guard instructor and do an excellent job protecting our kids in Orange Park.

School Resource Officers

The School Resource Officers are commanded by the Lieutenant. Currently we staff an officer in each of our three public schools, Orange Park Elementary, Grove Park Elementary and Orange Park Junior High.

The primary focus of officers assigned as school resource officers is the safety and security of the school campus. Well-publicized national events have demonstrated the need for development of safety strategies and event crisis management to insure the well being of students and staff members. School resource officers remain highly visible and assist in proactive problem solving to prevent or limit significant events from occurring on school grounds.

Apart from carrying a criminal investigation caseload resulting from crimes committed on campus, school resource officers are skilled in working with young people. Officers attend many school academic and sporting events and act as mentors to students, sharing their knowledge of life skills. Officers also participate in classroom activities. Our officers teach DARE to students in both of the elementary schools and cyber safety and more topics to those in the junior high. When school is not in session, school resource officers transition to regular road patrol duties.
