Bicycle Patrol

4 officers on bicycles. Police SUV & trailer in background.
Officers with the Orange Park Police Department have the opportunity to participate in the OPPD Bicycle Patrol unit as a collateral duty. Officers must pass a rigorous police bicycle patrol course to become a member. The bicycle officers are used in a variety of settings and situations. They are heavily used during large events and festivals including the Moosehaven 4th of July event. Bicycle officers are especially useful in negotiating the thick pedestrian traffic at these events and details. They are commonly utilized for proactive and preventative patrols in neighborhoods, hotels and apartment complexes within the Town. The bicycle unit has proven to not only be a great anti-crime initiative, but also a great way for our officers to build relationships with community members whom they might stop and talk to. Our Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA) Instructors host annual qualification courses and have helped certify members in bicycle patrol from a number of other northeast Florida law enforcement agencies.
